IT Services

Mechanical Engineering has three computer labs for teaching and learning, and one satellite lab. To learn more about our labs and how to access them, visit our ICICS X060, RH 123, and NAME Teaching Computer Labs page. Beyond these spaces, IT services are handled centrally by UBC or the Faculty of Applied Science.

UBC Email Addresses

New employees (faculty, staff, and student employees including GRAs, RAs, and TAs) will receive a Faculty and Staff Email (FASmail) account.  Mechanical Engineering’s HR team will be able to help with any questions at  hr@mech.ubc.ca.

Research Group Websites

If you are a faculty member and wish to create a website for your research group, please contact communications@mech.ubc.ca with your requested lab name and URL (researchgroup.mech.ubc.ca), and we will set you up with a website using UBC’s branded CMS platform.  The UBC content management system (CMS) is centrally hosted and based off WordPress, allowing UBC branding to be automatically applied to your site and making it easy for your lab team to update. It also allows us to give you a mech.ubc.ca subdomain free of charge, which will keep your site secure and leverage the UBC search engine rankings, among other benefits.

Please note that while our staff will set up your URL, implement the creation of your site’s shell and help you with going live,  your research group is responsible for content and updates, and they can get support from the Centre for Teaching and Learning Technology (CTLT) through their weekly WordPress clinics.
