MECH Technical Services

We offer support services for Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing students and Mechanical Engineering faculty and staff at UBC’s Vancouver Campus.

Machine Shop & MakerSpace

Our Student Machine Shop and MakerSpace allow students, faculty, and staff in the Mechanical Engineering program to access technical equipment and machining services. These facilities are also open to students in the Manufacturing Engineering program.

Electronics Shop & Labs

The Electronics Shop provides a variety of services to Mechanical Engineering students and faculty, while our Electronics Lab provides suitable space and equipment to do electronics coursework.

Facilities

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has a range of facilities to support the work of our faculty, staff and students. Request access to laboratories, computer labs, and workstations, view Mech lab availability, request facility maintenance including custodial services and find information regarding lockers, alarms, disposal and other facilities-related questions you may have.

Ordering supplies, components or materials for your project? Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) provides shipping and receiving services for both ECE and Mech.

Please note that services relating to Support Machining and the Electronics Shop, as well as other work in the Student Machine Shop and MakerSpace may be prioritized as follows:

  1. Course instruction involvement and teaching support
  2. Research support
  3. Operations support
  4. Approved Mech Student Groups support
  5. Requests external to Mech (sub-prioritized for teaching, research, and other)
