MECH Services Gradual Return to Campus Activity
To support UBC’s Covid-19 protocols, faculty and staff are working remotely whenever possible. While our Machine Shop and Electronics Shop are closed to non-staff users, both are now in limited support operation with personnel coming to campus several days per week.
Machine Shops
The Student Machine Shop is closed to use due to Covid-19 restrictions. The Support Machine Shop is operating in a limited fashion and is currently accepting support machining jobs for course-related project work, research and teaching. For job submissions, start the process by submitting your job on the online form and someone will get back to you. For more details, please visit the Support Machining Services pages here.
Please note that, in addition to having limited on campus staff activity, our facility is getting the entire electrical system replaced beginning November 16th with completion currently forecast for mid-February 2021.
Electronics Shop
The Electronics Shop has limited contact hours at the moment. Equipment can be signed in and out, components can be purchased, etc. at the following times:
- Open from 10 AM – 4 PM on Thursday
- All other days by appointment
Drop-ins are not allowed. Email eshop@mech.ubc.ca prior to arrival so equipment can be ready for pickup in order to limit contact time.
We are also accepting design jobs and providing advice via email:
Sean Buxton (course work): sbuxton@mech.ubc.ca
Glenn Jolly (research work): gjolly@mech.ubc.ca
